President Ed Weber and the entire Local 812 Executive Board thank all of our members working at Pepsi Bottling Ventures (Pepsi Meadowbrook) for their support, understanding and cooperation during the negotiations that the Executive Board undertook regarding the purchase of the Company's Nassau and Suffolk County Territories by Pepsi New York.

Under the "Memorandum of Agreement" the Executive Board negotiated severances of $50,000 for members wishing to retire with full medical benefits for the rest of their lives and also severances of $40,000 for employees with 15 years or more at Meadowbrook along with  company paid medical benefits for one year.

The purchasing company (Pepsi Cola Bottling Company of New York) also agreed to honor the existing PBV agreement and to recognize members' seniority and all benefits due to them under that contract

Most importantly, the Union was able to negotiate a "40-hour wage guarantee" for the next two years for employees on the Production / Warehouse list who may be laid off as a result of the company's decision to close its production operations. Under the agreement, any member who was employed at the date of purchase will be paid for any day they are laid off. They will also receive fully paid medical benefits and pension credits.

The Agreement also called for the transfer of the PBV Transport Department into the Pepsi New York Transport Department. The Union negotiated a seniority dovetail of the Department.

The Executive Board would like to thank Shop Steward Stanley Cummings and our Pepsi New York Transport Department members for showing true union solidarity by welcoming in these Long Island members and recognizing their seniority.

President Weber said, "It's easy to talk about being a good union man but these members demonstrated their commitment to the Union and their fellow members by voluntarily recognizing their years of service." President Weber pointed to the solidarity shown by these unselfish members, setting an example for our entire membership by coming to the aid of its fellow members.

Way to go Pepsi New York Transport Department!

President Weber reported to the membership at the June general meeting that the agreement was one of the "best ever negotiated". He thanked PBV Shop Stewards Tom Donahue, Ralph D'Auria, Nick Valentino and Bill Hinderliter for all their support and input during these very tough negotiations. The stewards came in on their own time to give the Executive Board the information needed to effectuate this agreement.
